Aikon Interior is a Melbourne-based interior fitout and lining contractor specialising in light steel partition, suspended ceiling, plasterboard and fire-rated wall systems. Operating from Level 2, 1 Chapel Street, Blackburn VIC 3130 with an in-house team of 45 installers, fixers and lining specialists, we subcontract to head contractors and developers on commercial programs and engage directly with homeowners on residential renovation works across metropolitan Victoria.
What We Do — And What We Don't
Clarity about trade scope prevents the misunderstandings that damage subcontractor relationships and homeowner expectations. Aikon Interior is a lining and lightweight partition contractor. We frame, line, joint, flush and prepare surfaces for decoration. We do not perform structural works, hydraulic or electrical services, painting, tiling or joinery — though we coordinate closely with the trades who do.
This focus is deliberate. Since establishing in 2021, our Victorian market experience has demonstrated that subcontractors who spread across unrelated trades rarely maintain the supervision depth, crew skills or quality consistency that lining programs demand. Our 45-person team exists because partition, ceiling and plasterboard work is sufficient to fill their capacity with the right level of technical attention.
Commercial Capability
On commercial projects, Aikon Interior engages as a subcontractor to tier-one and tier-two head contractors delivering student accommodation, office fitouts and multi-residential developments. Our flagship reference is the Victoria University student accommodation project — a multi-level program where partition, ceiling and fire-rated lining packages were delivered across repeated floor typologies with the programme discipline and inspection documentation that large-scale residential construction requires.
We have also delivered lining packages on projects for developers including Australand and Burbank Homes, where developer inspection standards, defect closure timelines and subcontractor compliance documentation are non-negotiable. On these programs, our value is not creative design — it is reliable execution of documented partition types, ceiling systems and fire-rated assemblies against the head contractor's programme.
Residential Capability
Residential renovation represents a growing proportion of our enquiry volume. Homeowners and residential builders engage us for internal wall modifications, ceiling replacements and full lining packages on townhouses and detached villas. The technical work is familiar — steel stud framing, plasterboard flushing, acoustic lining — but the operational context requires adapted site management: dust containment, floor protection, occupied-premises scheduling and direct homeowner communication.
We apply the same finish standards on domestic projects that we apply on commercial programs. Level 4 flushing is our default for painted residential surfaces. We do not treat homeowner projects as an opportunity to deploy less experienced crews or relax inspection processes.
Our Team
Aikon Interior employs 45 personnel across installation, fixing, flushing and site supervision roles. Our workforce is in-house — not a revolving network of unvetted casual labour sourced per project. This matters for three reasons: skill consistency across floor plates, accountability when defects arise, and the ability to scale mobilisation on large programs without sacrificing supervision ratios.
Site supervisors on commercial projects hold responsibility for daily output, quality hold-points, safety compliance and coordination with the head contractor's site manager. On residential projects, the same supervisors provide homeowner communication and site cleanliness oversight. We do not operate a bifurcated quality system between commercial and residential — the trades are the same people.
Compliance & Professional Standing
Aikon Interior PTY LTD operates as a GST-registered entity (ABN 57 653 599 654) with documented Safe Work Method Statements, public liability and workers compensation insurance appropriate for commercial construction site access. Insurance certificates and company credentials are provided to head contractors at tender and mobilisation stages.
Our works are executed in accordance with the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards for plasterboard and steel framing, and project-specific fire engineering and acoustic specifications. We do not substitute tested assembly components without engineer approval and do not permit undocumented penetrations through fire-rated elements.
Our Operating Principles
Three principles govern how Aikon Interior makes decisions on site, prices work at tender, and responds when problems arise. These are not marketing statements — they are the criteria our supervisors apply when the correct course of action costs more time or money than the shortcut.
Specification Fidelity
We install what is documented — partition types, fire-rated assemblies, finish levels, acoustic ratings. Substitutions require written approval. Undocumented shortcuts that pass visual inspection but fail compliance testing are not permitted regardless of programme pressure.
Programme Transparency
When programme risk emerges — material delay, services clash, access restriction — we escalate to the head contractor or homeowner immediately with proposed recovery options. Programme surprises discovered at PC are failures of communication, not inevitabilities.
Finish Accountability
Surface quality is our deliverable. Level 4 means paint-ready, not "good enough from a distance." We attend joint inspections, close defect items promptly, and do not dispute legitimate quality concerns documented under critical lighting conditions.
